Bachelor of Science in Food Technology

B.Sc. (Food Technology)

Bachelor of Science in Food Technology is an undergraduate Food Technology course. Food Technology is the application of food science to the selection, preservation, processing, packaging, distribution, and use of safe, nutritious, and wholesome food. It is the study of applying food science to selection, preservation, processing, packaging, distribution, and use of nutritious and safe food. Subjects typically studied under this course are packaging technology, food microbiology, food chemistry and dairy technology. Food technologists study the physical, microbiological, and chemical makeup of food. Depending on their area of specialization, Food Technologists may develop ways to process, preserve, package, or store food, according to industry and government specifications and regulations. The course is career originating in nature and opens many job scopes after its completion.

Food Science and Technology majors find career opportunities with food processing firms, government agencies, and educational institutions. Types of positions available to food science and technology graduates include product development, quality assurance, food plant management, food research, food marketing and sales, education and extension. The major curriculum includes a balance of courses in food science, biological sciences, physical sciences, mathematics, social sciences, and humanities.

Food science courses include food processing, food engineering, food analysis, food chemistry, food microbiology, nutrition, quality assurance, and commodity processing courses. This program is designed to allow the student to develop an area of emphasis that fits their career goals by providing technical elective hours that are chosen by the student. Students may participate in an internship program that provides summer employment in the food industry.

Duration of the Course

3 years including six months Internship Programme.

The Course is affiliated to Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University.

Total Number Of Seats

Sixty (60) seats annually.

Medium Of Instruction

The medium of instruction will be English.

Eligibility Criteria For Admission To The Course

  • Should have passed 10+2 Examination with Science (PCB) and English Core / English Elective from recognized board under AISSCE / CBSE / ICSE / SSCE / HSCE or other equivalent board.
  • Should secure an aggregate of 50% or more marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
  • Should have completed the minimum age of 17 years on or before the 31st December 2017 and not exceeding the maximum age of 35 years as on 31st December 2017
  • Candidates found guilty of misconduct or convicted of any offense shall not be eligible for admission.
  • Candidates should be medically fit.

Commencement Of The Course

The course will commence with effect from September/October 2017 for the current academic year.

Hostel Accommodation

The course will be completely residential in nature and hostel accommodation will be compulsory for all the candidates admitted to the course.

Note

  • All the selected candidates will have to deposit full fee on the day of counseling and be deposited in 2 installments.
  • Failure to deposit the fee on the day of counseling will lead to cancellation of admission and the seat will be offered to the next candidate.
  • Cheques, Cash and Bank Drafts are drawn in favor of Doon Institute of Medical Sciences payable at Union Bank of India, Sahaspur, Dehradun will be accepted.
  • All charges are subject to revision by Uttarakhand Government from time to time during the period of course.
  • Student Will have to pay for The Uniform and Books separately.
  • Mess charges will be extra and as per actual (Co-operative mess run by Mess Committee).
